Forthcoming shenanigans
Yeah, that's right...I said it.

If you haven't been keeping track of our calendar, there are a few things on the radar at this point.

-Chatt. Region SCCA autocross on 4/25
-NASA South East event at Carolina Motorsports Park (CMP) 5/1
-Tracksunlimited event at Nashville Super Speedway 5/16

The NSS event is a definite maybe for me.  I would like to use it as a "before" test session prior to making any wheel/suspension changes on the NSX, but if the MR2 breaks, then I'd rather not risk having both cars down at once.   We shall see.  Hopefully I can swing all three before taking a break for june/july.

Crossing of Autos
ETR event #2 looked pretty Grim for 3-Zero.

I sucked out loud for my first three runs (i.e. the ones that count) and was summarily PWNed. TJ, meanwhile, was stuck in 4th for his first 4 runs behind some local veterans.

However, while I could only manage to stay off the bottom of the barrel in my class, TJ dropped a bomb on his last run and cut 2 seconds...yeah, you read that correctly: TWO SECONDS... basically a day-and-a-half in the autocross world...thus nabbing third place.

Back in the Saddle

Thanks to some clutch shipping by Barney, and a little nice-weather-motivation I was able to get the NSX buttoned back up Friday night with a new lower timing cover, a new balancer, a shield behind the new balancer (to prevent future shenanigans), and a newly baffled oil pan.  I've driven it pretty extensively the past couple of days with nary a drop of oil or whiff of smoke.  Hopefully this will only lead to even more extensive driving as the summer carries on.

I need to find a couple of track days so I can figure this thing out and get a baseline for any fiddling I do down the road.

Talladega Night (well, morning & early-afternoon really)

Talladega Grand Prix Raceway is located just a bit south of Anniston and Oxford Alabama, in the middle of some farm country.  It was built with motorcycles in mind so there is very little to run into if you leave the track (a fact to which TJ can attest).  This makes it a perfect learning environment for folks on track for the first time and/or learning a new car (as in my case). The staff is very friendly and accomodating, and the facility although small, is well kept.

We were visiting as part of a small lapping day organized by a member of the Chattanooga Region SCCA.  There were a maximum of 5 cars per run-group which resulted in plenty of elbow room on track.  It was by-and-large a pretty relaxed day at the track in spite of the typically humid deep-south weather, and a few thunder showers.

Not to dissappoint, I return bearing gifts:

Pocono 2010: The Aftermath

Crap, I've done it again!  A hopelessly ambitious title up to which the short paragraph to follow has no chance of living.  Oh well.

Pocono this year entertained for a number of reasons not least of which were the cars present.  My shutter snapped at some of the rarest Ferraris in existance, some of the fastest Alfa Romeos in the world, the newest offerings from Lamborghini and Aston Martin, not to meantion the dearth of slightly less rarified, but no less arresting rolling sculptures.  I operated a bit of a ramshackle blog (click here), in between showfield and track days over the weekend.  Honestly, half the fun of attenting such events come from sharing the experience.

Now, for those of you who have wondered what an FXX sounds like at full song, and not in a video game:

CMP, slightly warmer:

Much to my relief, I arrived on friday to something other than a blizzard this time.  A semi-frustrating, but over-all fun weekend ensued.

The history lesson continues.  I probably shouldn't have said that because it sounds educational, causing many of you to lose interest immediately.  Seriously, watch them, it'll be good for you.
